Free Stress QuizHow Well You Do You Handle Stress and Anxiety?

There is a wide variance in the way that people handle. At one end of the scale are people who thrive on stress and actively seek it out. Extreme sportspeople and people who work in high-stress environments are just a couple of examples.

At the other end of the scale, there are the people who will do everything they can to avoid stress in their lives. The rest of us fit somewhere in between.

So stress isn’t inherently bad. Even though when you’re feeling overstressed it can feel very bad.

What’s important is how you manage the stress in your life and why you are in fact creating it.

Why Is Managing Stress Well So Important?

How you manage stress and anxiety is an important key to unlocking your potential. Do it well and you can grow to the point where you operate in your “zone”.

This “zone” of perfect stress is also known as being in a state of “eustress” and is the state that top achievers aim for. In this state you optimise your productivity, your output feels effortless, everything just works.

If you don’t learn to manage stress properly you will soothe yourself with different behaviours. Some of these behaviours are positive; like mindfulness, gentle exercise and doing activities that bring you joy. We call this stress first aid, they are helpful, but they don’t address the underlying causes of stress and anxiety.

You may also choose destructive behaviours like drinking alcohol for stress relief, overeating, gambling etc. The video below shows how this works.

  1. Hello Deb, I feel there are so many people who will benefit from this article and I have to say it’s really a great sight to be here learning about one of the very common things amongst us and that is stress and anxiety. For me, I have always dealt with stress by simply taking time off anything that could be a cause of it and until I’m relaxed I don’t get back to it.

  2. Thank you for sharing this information here online. Really worthy to see andi must say that all that you have shared can really be helpful and help us combat our stress dominated life. Often we dont know how much stressed we are over both the little things and the big things. It makes a lot of sense seeing all of these here. Thank you so much for all you shared

  3. Good information.  Thank you.  I agree with you.  It is not the stress, but in tthe end how you handle stress.  It is just that some of us hand stress differently than others.  My cousin has an extreme case of schizophrenia and battles anxiety most often.  It brings stress in his life.  I always tell him that we all have a certain amount of stress in our lives.  None of us are exempt.  It is just how we deal with it that matters.  Some of us are better conditioned to cope better.  What are your thoughts about this information that I share with my cousin.  I always tell him that the best way to deal with the type of stress he has in his life is to find a way to help other people.  Notwithstanding his handycap, I think that is one of his major challenges.  He spends way too much time thinking about himself.  Understandably to a degree because of his condition.  But he is not handycapped to the point where he cannot spend some of his bent up energy to help others.  I just believe thhat if he spent time helping others some of the stress in his life would diminish.  I think one of the golden rules applies here.  In scripture it encourages that as we consider others before, or above, and as much as we consider ourselves, that we will be considered.  It is like giving a smile.  Their will be some who don’t smile, but most people will smile back.  Say hello to ten people and I bet 8 or 9 will say hello back.  This is only one person’s perspective on how to deal with personal stress or anxiety, however it is brought on.  Thanks for allowing me to express my experience and thank you for having this conversation with us.  Hope to hear back from you soon.

    1. Thanks Dave. Helping others is good if he has a high need for love and belonging but many people don’t and therefore helping others is not going to give him what he needs. The fact that he is so wrapped up in himself makes me thing he has high survival needs and maybe power. I would get him to download our needs profile in the sidebar so he can figure out, maybe with your help what needs he is not meeting. Unmet needs is a major source of stress. Thanks for your comment πŸ™‚ You can always send your cousin our way. Jeff has help many people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia

  4. First of all thank you so much for all you shared. In some period of my life i have problem with this ,,new age” threat. Anxiety for me is a threat and an obstacle to leading a “normal” life, performing daily natural activities. That is when I am not able to face everyday life problems. The most important thing is to know that you cannot die from it. It is very important that you can share things like this with someone because you are certainly not alone in this. We need to talk about this. I think it’s half the job, at least that’s how it was with me.

  6. Thank you for sharing this vital information here online. Working hard can cause a lot of stress to a person that if left unchecked would be fatal to said person health wise. Everyone has their own way to deal with stress and relax but I think it’s important to find yours so as not to make yourself burnnt out. Thank you for sharing this free stress test
