Feel BetterFeel Better Right Away  

If you have an acute need to feel better there are so many things you can do in the present moment:

  • Put on some of your favourite music
  • Write out what you feel like and more importantly what you want to feel like
    • If art is more your thing draw it out
    • If dance is your things dance it out
  • If you have a box of saved cards from loved ones telling you how great you are fish them out and read them
  • Focus on your happiest moments and your most loved people
  • Garden, walk, make love, sleep, cook … do whatever gives you joy in the present moment

None of these strategies will fix anything long term but they will help you feel better in the present moment so that you have ability to address the issues that put you in the space where you knew that you needed to feel better.

Some people seem to glide along, seemingly unaffected by the vicissitudes of life. If you have found yourself here you are probably not one of those people. Or maybe you have been until now but something has put the proverbial spanner in your works.

Meeting Our NeedsRelationships

We have dreams, make plans and set goals because we believe the things we are trying to bring into our life will make us feel better, but how do we know that? Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes having the thing we’ve worked towards isn’t anything like we thought it would be. Sometimes if we meet one of our needs it’s at the expense of another.

The only way we can hope to feel better in a sustained way is to meet all our needs in a balanced way that also fits with our Quality World pictures. Dr William Glasser describes Quality World Pictures as being like a personal picture album of all the people, things, experiences, ideas, and principles that we have discovered or that we believe increase the quality of our life. The better we can do this the better we will feel but it isn’t as easy as it might sound.

There’s actually something to be said with every thing you mentioned on this page.  We are in a world where we are surrounded by negativity.  From TV, News, Social Media, and even people, it’s hard to find a lot of positive things.  When you surround yourself with negative things, it definitely effects you as a person.  What you said about either pulling something out such as cards or letters from family or doing physical actions such as dance, singing, etc… is definitely on point.  Have you ever tried cutting out social media for a week or two?  I wonder what the results would be?

Now I Write out what I feel like and more importantly what I want to feel like. The better we can do this the better we will feel but it isn’t as easy as it might sound.   4. I agree with you; feeling great starts with the proactive and conscious decision of getting to that sweet spot! Thanks for the recommendations, especially for the one of writing about the way we want to feel (for me it has become a daily practice and it does really work).

    Being surrounded by the right people is also important; you may call it energy, aura or spirituality, but the good mood, as well as the bad one type, are contagious. It doesn’t really matter the final outcomes of our efforts; what will always matter the most, is the way we react to external realities.

    Knowing what we can and can’t control in our lives will give us a great sense of humility as well as some kind of wisdom. Share the Love and everything will be really good!

I describe the condition you write about in this article as “feeling heavy.”  I don’t feel sick, depressed or frightened.  I just don’t feel good.  The article is very up-lifting.  I really like you suggestions for feeling better right away.  For your second suggestion, I am started playing the piano to feel better.  Specifically, I play hymns and gospel songs that kind of speak to what I am feeling or what I think the problem might be.  Just the act of playing is soothing and makes me feeling lighter.  I think the condition you are writing about is experienced by lots of people but it has no clinical definition so its over looked. You have helped to make me feel lighter.
